What is Digital Eye Strain?

Digital eye strain is the name given to describe a group of symptoms that can occur when someone spends long periods of time using digital devices. Since using digital devices requires the eyes to work harder than normal and the position of digital devices is usually within arms reach, it can lead to issues such as eye pain, eye fatigue, light sensitivity, blurred vision and dry, irritated eyes.  Since the pandemic, the number of people who are experiencing digital eye strain has grown significantly over the last few years and is expected to continue to do so.

What is Binocular Vision Dysfunction?

Binocular vision dysfunction occurs when the eyes aren’t perfectly aligned, causing your brain and eyes to work harder than normal in order to create a clear and single visual image and remain focused. This creates strain on our eyes, neck, head and back. Binocular vision dysfunction can manifest as a huge range of symptoms that are associated with the condition. These can include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Blurred vision
  • Headaches
  • Double vision
  • Motion sickness
  • Vertigo
  • Dizziness
  • Anxiety

Many people don’t think to visit an eye doctor when they are experiencing these symptoms, but all of these can occur simply because the eyes are strained from excessive close work and are out of alignment.  Computer/digital glasses that are CUSTOM designed for YOUR  SPECIFIC NEEDS AND WORKING DISTANCES can greatly reduce these symptoms, so make sure to let Dr. Kubota know if you are experiencing any of these symptoms.
