MiSight Contact Lenses

MiSight is a new 1-Day disposable soft contact lens specifically designed for myopia control and is FDA approved to slow the progression of myopia in children.  Misight contact lenses have been clinically proven to reduce the progression of myopia and to be safe for children.  MiSight contact lenses are SOFT contact lenses and are more easily tolerated than the the rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lenses used in corneal refractive therapy (CRT), another method for myopia control.  The daily disposable modality is also more hygenic and healthy for the eyes because the children get to use clean lenses with no build up every day, without struggling with the daily responsibility of cleaning them.  Dr. Kubota is a certified Misight doctor, so if you are interested in slowing the progression of myopia in your child, please consult with Dr. Kubota.

Understanding Refractive Vision Problems

Refractive vision problems like nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism are extremely common. Patients with with nearsightedness, also known as myopia, can see near objects clearly, but everything farther away is blurred. Myopia occurs when the shape of the cornea (the front surface of the eye) impairs the light-bending process in your eyes or when the back of the eye becomes elongated, so the light cannot focus on the retina. This leads to the light focusing in the wrong place, and the message that is sent to our brain from our eyes is out of focus and blurred.

Slowing the Progression of Myopia

Most people who are nearsighted find that their eyesight gets progressively worse as they get older. This deterioration may not be rapid, but it can end in patients becoming dependent on very high prescriptions. Studies have found that patients who have high myopia are at a higher risk to develop serious eye problems in the future, including myopic degeneration and retinal detachment. Keeping myopia levels under control can improve your child's eye health and improve their quality of life and opportunities in the future.
